Board of Directors Meeting Minutes
October 16, 2015
The meeting of the Daniel Boone Wilderness Trail Association Board of Directors was held at the Cove Ridge Center on October 16, 2015 at 12 pm. Present at the meeting were Gretchen Cope, Larry Fleenor, Joe Fuller, Megan Krager, Joan Short, Ron Short, and Dale Taylor.
Approval of Minutes:
Larry Fleenor moved to approve the minutes from the August 21 meeting. Dale Taylor seconded the motion and it was approved unanimously.
Treasurer’s Report:
Joe Fuller delivered the Treasurer’s report. A full copy of the report is filed in the Secretary’s archive.
Ron Short moved that the financials be approved as reported. John Mullen seconded the motion and it was approved unanimously.
Joan Short asked if the Times News had lowered the monthly bill to $50. Gretchen stated that she hadn’t heard anything. It was decided that the subject shouldn’t be pursued any further until the Times News pays the $500 they typically pay on a year basis.
Joe asked if Blockhouse on the Holston books should be ordered soon. Dale moved to order 100 copies. Ron seconded the motion and it was approved unanimously.
Blockhouse Volunteer Schedule:
Dale reported that there were 533 visitors to the Blockhouse in July, 327 in August, and 371 in September.
Park Report:
Megan reported that construction had begun on the four new two-bedroom cabins that were set to be completed sometime in 2016. She added that decorating for the Christmas season had begun and preparations were being made for the Christmas programs.
Megan also informed everyone that the park would be closed November 7, 9, and 10 for a managed deer hunt.
President’s Report:
Joan reported that volunteers were still needed for the Blockhouse. She also informed everyone that the DBWTA would have a tent at Home Craft Days at Mountain Empire Community College.
Joan announced that anyone willing to volunteer at the Harvest Festival on October 24 would be much appreciated. She added that the Frontier Muster and Trade Faire was set for April 30 and May 1, 2016.
