Board of Directors Meeting Minutes

February 19, 2016

 

The meeting of the Daniel Boone Wilderness Trail Association Board of Directors was held at the Cove Ridge Center on February 19, 2016at 12 pm.  Present at the meeting were Gretchen Cope, Larry Fleenor, Joe Fuller,Corey Gardner, Megan Krager, John Mullen, Joan Short, Ron Short, Jim Stallard, and Dale Taylor.

 

Approval of Minutes:

Larry Fleenor moved to approve the minutes from the October 16, 2015 meeting. Ron Short seconded the motion and it was approved unanimously.

 

Treasurer’s Report:

Joe Fuller delivered the Treasurer’s report. A full copy of the report is filed in the Secretary’s archive.

John Mullen moved that the financials be approved as reported.  Ron seconded the motion and it was approved unanimously.

Joe announced that the Times News still had not lowered the monthly bill to $50 like they had previously mentioned. It was agreed that the matter would be looked into further.

 

Blockhouse Volunteer Schedule:

Dale reported that there were 533 visitors to the Blockhouse in July, 327 in August, and 371 in September.

 

Park Report:

Megan Krager reported that the construction of the four new cabins was under way and that two yurts would also be built sometime during 2016. Megan also announced that the park had a new Chief Ranger, Joshua Grasty. Everyone in the park was busy gearing up for the summer season.

 

There was much discussion about the Devil’s Bathtub and the parking and trash issues at the location. Megan confirmed that, to her knowledge, access to the Devil’s Bathtub was not going to be closed.

 

DBWT IC:

Joe Fuller reported that there had been some progress but that it still needed to go out for bids. The design had also been downsized due to budget. Overall, the Board was optimistic.

 

There was some discussion about the film that was to be made for the new Center.

 

President’s Report:

Joan reported that volunteers were still needed for the Blockhouse. She also informed everyone that the DBWTA would have a tent at Home Craft Days at Mountain Empire Community College.

 

Joan announced that anyone willing to volunteer at the Harvest Festival on October 24 would be much appreciated. She added that the Frontier Muster and Trade Faire was set for April 30 and May 1, 2016.

 

Old Business:

There was no old business.

 

New Business:

The Board decided to add Keith Wilson to the stationary as he had been voted in as Director Emeritus some time back.

There were no announcements.

 

Adjournment:

Ron made the motion to adjourn. Dale seconded that motion and it was approved unanimously.
